In 1962, Ömer ÇOMAKLI was born in Aşkale, Erzurum. He completed primary and secondary school education there. He started Mechanical Engineering Department in Sakarya Engineering Faculty of İstanbul Technical University in 1981 and graduated in 1985. He began his career as a research assistant in Mechanical Engineering Thermodynamics Department of Faculty of Enginnering at Atatürk University in 1986.
He finished his master in Thermodynamics-Energy Program, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at 9 Eylül University in 1988; his PhD in Thermodynamics Program, Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Karadeniz Technical University in 1991. He was appointed as an Assistant Professor in Faculty of Engineering at Atatürk University in the same year. During 1993-1994, he participated in postdoctoral studies in the related department of USA Miami University as a visiting fellow. He was appointed as an Associate Professor in Department of Mechanical Engineering, Faculty of Engineering at Atatürk University in 1995 and as a Professor in the same department in 2002. He served as the head of Department between 1991-2016 and the head of Program between 1994-1998. Prof. Dr. Ömer ÇOMAKLI served as the Dean of Faculty of Engineering(2009-2011) and the Vice Rector (2008-2011) at Bayburt University (2009-2011); the Vice Rector at Atatürk University during 2013- 2016.
Prof. Dr. Ömer ÇOMAKLI took part in a great number of national and international projects and has had nearly 120 published national and international publications, notices and posters so far.
Appointed as a Rector of Atatürk University by the President Recep Tayyip ERDOĞAN on August 12, 2016, Prof. Dr. Ömer ÇOMAKLI is married with four children. He speaks English.
